Introduction
Embark on a breathtaking 6-day journey through the stunning Peruvian Andes on the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. This trail meanders under the awe-inspiring Salkantay Mountain, standing tall at 6,271 meters (20,569 feet), making it one of the highest and most beautiful peaks in Peru. Recognized by National Geographic as one of the top 20 ultimate adventure treks worldwide, the Salkantay Trek is known for its extreme and legendary routes, challenging even for the most seasoned adventurers. However, it remains accessible to all, offering an extraordinary alternative to the classic Inca Trail.
The trek’s highlight, the mighty Apu Salkantay, surpasses North America’s highest peak, Mt. McKinley (6,194 meters/20,332 feet), and Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,892 meters/19,331 feet), showcasing its grandeur. This 6-day version of the Salkantay Trek starts at Marcoccasa, located 9 kilometers before the traditional starting point at Soraypampa. The Marcoccasa to Soraypampa section itself is a hidden gem, offering an enriching experience for those with limited time, deserving to be a trip on its own.
Opting for the 6-day trek instead of the usual four days allows you to explore less-traveled paths and immerse yourself deeply in the region’s natural beauty. The extended journey provides more opportunities to discover secluded spots and enjoy a more intimate connection with the diverse landscapes that surround Salkantay Mountain, thanks to its unique geographical position.
Open to everyone, this trek is the most favored alternative to the Inca Trail for reaching Machu Picchu. Inca Glamping Peru comes highly recommended by TripAdvisor and Trustpilot. Join the ranks of satisfied trekkers who have made unforgettable memories on this epic adventure!
